Scenario: a ridiculously rare and valuable Bugatti has been found in a barn and is being offered for sale, asking price $100,000

Kinja'd!!!

The catch: the barn was located several miles from the Chernobyl power plant. The car remains highly irradiated.

Nope. What’s the point in owning a car if I can’t drive it?

Chernobyl is one of those places I’ve always wanted to visit.

What sort of crappy Soviet has a Bugatti? Anyway, I’m guessing it could be decontaminated enough that you could turn a tidy profit selling it.

The concrete encasement is supposed to be an engineering masterpiece. Plus there is a lot of wildlife to enjoy.

Plus you’d get to see nature reclaim a city, as well as a Soviet city frozen in time. One of my favorite things about visiting Russia was just walking around and seeing all the random things in the city.

That is a work of art. Even if I can’t drive it, if there were some way of being able to enjoy it fairly close up without radiation risk (some special glass containment cube?), it would be cool to have.

Not that I have $100,000 to spend on art, so it is an extremely hypothetical question anyway.

Not 100K for that one, it’s a scale model ;)

A car like that showing up in Putlinand also might be grounds for caution, as it would likely be something pilfered in 1945 (or 1991+), and the prior legal owner might make a claim. Chernobyl would be a fascinating place for a (very short) visit, though.

If I couldn’t restore it and race it up Goodwood, I would not buy it.

LOL even better, not paying 100K for a CGI

I’ll at least go look at it with a geiger counter. Chances are that the radiation isn’t that much higher than the natural background, and after a good cleanup it will be safe to drive once in a while without physical risk.

Hell yeah I would. I’ll probably die young anyway. Also, why does the pic look like high quality video game CGI?
